All Saints Arts - Concert Matinee Series 2025

Naomi Sullivan (Saxophone) and Charles Matthews (Piano)

Although the saxophone is now generally associated with jazz, its inventor, Adolphe Sax, created the instrument in the 1840s to extend the tonal range of the woodwind family, and French composers, in particular, exploited its potential as a 'classical' instrument, as will be evident in Naomi's programme. A number of the composers will be unfamiliar, such as Guy de Lioncourt, Jeanne Leleu and Fernande Decruck, whose excellent sonata will be played. The programme also incudes a first performance of a work by Clare Loveday, and pieces by Mark-Anthony Turnage and Piazzolla.
